Who is this world-famous trumpet player? Growing up in New Orleans, he did odd jobs for the Karnoffskys, a local Jewish family. He said, "I was only seven years old but I saw the ungodly treatment the white folks were handing the poor Jewish family." He wore a Star of David pendant the rest of his life and wrote about what he learned from them: "how to live - real life and determination." Pictured below in 1959, he enjoys a Passover seder at Kibbutz Sasa in northern Israel.
